The Underlying Cause Of Habitual Sin
Many times, we sin. We feel so bad, and we try to discontinue our sinning; but despite our efforts to do good, we continue to do evil. Why is this? The real problem is not usually what we do, especially with habitual sin. The real problem is not that we did some kind of horrible deed, but that we didn’t go to the Lord for our identity, for acceptance, for affirmation. A need to be loved is very strong; it propels people into the gay lifestyle, into habitual drinking, into overeating, into all kind of various sins… it even has propelled those so disturbed, so in need of love, to commit suicide. Paul said in Romans 7, “When I would do good, evil is present with me.” He also stated, “Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?” This sounds like a lot of people, they truly desire to do what is right, but constantly fail, again and again.
This need to be loved is an underlying cause to many, many sinful lifestyles. For many gays, it was the need of a male love, which propels them to get a perverted love from males. For alcoholics’, it could be that their wounds hurt so badly, they feel so rejected, that anything that even temporarily seems to ease the pain, even though they know it’s wrong, seems good. This need for love cannot be met by a spouse, lovers, a bottle, drugs, or addiction. This need for love can only be met by the purest love that has ever been... The love of a God who aches for His children to know His love, yet His children refuse Him, time and time again. Many people think that God is mad at them. I must tell you, God hates sin, but He loves you! It was this love that Jesus Christ had, that He would take the punishment for our sin, so that nothing would ever stand between us and God - except our pride.
Maybe you’re saying, “Yes, that’s me, but why would God love me?” Isn’t that God’s choice, to decide whether or not He wants to love you? Begin to ask God to reveal His deep love to you. The Bible says, “Every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” And Jesus declared, “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?”
