Songs of Deliverance - Part 2

When we approach a problem in our reasoning and our own strength we will undoubtedly fail. We must come before Almighty God and ask for Him to lead us into freedom and sing over us His songs of deliverance. If we will stop trying to obtain freedom through our own efforts (which does not mean to give in to temptations) and give the problems to God, God will prove faithful in setting us free - but only God can uncover the true cause of your problems, and only God can truly set you free from them.

If we sin, however, we cannot just say “well it’s my insecurities causing me to sin” and then take no responsibility for our own failure. We must acknowledge that the sin we commit is our sin. And the insecurities we have are the lies we chose to believe. We cannot escape the fact that we have sinned and are in need of forgiveness. We should not hide our sin, but openly confess it to God and receive from Him the mercy we so desperately need. Look at what David said in Psalm 32,

“How blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven,
         Whose sin is covered!
    How blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity,
         And in whose spirit there is no deceit!
    When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away
         Through my groaning all day long.
    For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me;
         My vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer. Selah.”(NASB)

Many people can relate with these words. We hide our sins (as if God can’t see them anyway) and in the process we become so dry; our strength is sapped, and we waste away. David said that he groaned all the day and that the hand of the Lord was heavy upon him. He knew, deep down, that he had messed up, yet he kept his sin silent for a while. Now let’s look at the next few verses.

“I acknowledged my sin to You,
         And my iniquity I did not hide;
         I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD";
         And You forgave the guilt of my sin. Selah.” (NASB)

Now David lays all his sins, all his problems, all his perversions and wrong thinking bare before God. He lays down his pride and says “I have a problem… I cannot fix it on my own.” But what does the Lord do? David declares that when he confessed his sin to the Lord, the Lord forgave the guilt of his sin. If we want and desire freedom, we must come in complete humility and lay all things bare before God in total surrender to Him.

If we skip down to verse seven (7), David said after he had confessed his sin:

“You are my hiding place; You preserve me from trouble;
         You surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah. “(NASB)

“You surround me with songs of deliverance” that is awesome isn’t it?
Now as David is praying, God answers, let’s look at what God has to say in verse eight (8).

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go;
         I will counsel you with My eye upon you.
     9Do not be as the horse or as the mule which have no understanding,
         Whose trappings include bit and bridle to hold them in check,
         Otherwise they will not come near to you.
     10Many are the sorrows of the wicked,
         But he who trusts in the LORD, lovingkindness shall surround him.
     11Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous ones;
         And shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart.” (NASB)

The Lord’s response to David’s humility and openness is a promise to instruct him, teach him, show him which way he should go, to counsel him and watch over him! God warns David not to be stubborn and reminds David that loving-kindness surrounds those who trust in the Lord. In verse eleven (11) God also reminds David the importance of praise in the middle of these problems.

Open your heart and ask God to fill it with His precious songs of deliverance… the freedom we will have will be the freedom we have asked for. God promises to forgive when we come before Him like David did – in total humility and openness before God.

God can heal the wounds that have been inflicted upon you, He can replace the lies with the Truth, and He can set you free! Listen; do you hear Him singing over you?

I hope you and your's a Happy New Year! 2008 went by quickly, let's remember to make 2009 as great as we can, and live life without regret. Let's live abundantly in 2009!
