Dealing With The Root

Failure is something most of us have a hard time coping with, but what do we do when we fail? Most people just say “it’ll be alright”, “get over it…” or “just keep busy…”, but Jesus teaches us a better way— to deal with the problem, not just hide it under the rug, or try to forget about it - but to actually find the problem, and kill it at its root!

Most of our failure is in sinning, how do we deal with this problem? Sure, we can repent of our sins, and become blameless in the sight of God, but what is it that compels us to sin? Many would say “it’s the old man”, and it’s true, but knowing where it is does not fix the problem. We must search for, and destroy the root of the problem… Many people, who commit sin, simply do whatever they do, because of what’s inside them is trying to be fulfilled. If someone wants loved and accepted, they will (usually in all the wrong places) try to fulfill that longing by becoming something their not to gain a flase acceptance that may last all the way through school, or the job they have, but one day will end and will have never satisfied you. I can say this because I’ve been there, and though it huts—some times terribly - we must allow God to take us once back to the hurts that we have inside of us and heal them, never visit them again, except to show others that wounds do heal with the right treatment - the Healer!

I have grown up in a loving family, in Church, and had more than some and less than some when it comes to physical things. But still, to know someone intimately enough to be able to bear all without shame was something I longed for, something I needed. This deep drive for love and intimacy was steered in the wrong direction and it came out in sin. And the more I sinned, the more shame I had, which added to the shame I had felt for years and only made the problem worse. Though I did not know God like I do now, I knew He was and I heard Him speak. As I kept on sinning, trying to “find love in all the wrong places”, I felt unacceptable by God, which drove me to sin more. This thing that drives us to sin is called iniquity in the Bible, iniquity means "twisted" and that is the way we perceive things after we have been hurt. Isn't funny how Jesus was bruised for iniquity? A bruise is where you are hurt and bleeding occurs under the skin, this bleeding become evident in the form of a bruise. Just like hurt leads us to believe lies, and lies lead us into sinful lifestyles.

We need to forget about yesterday and learn how much God loves us. God has already forgiven us if we are His Children. He’s not holding anything against you. This is what you need to get deep down in your soul. He’s not waiting to hit you! He loves you! In fact, He lives to lavish his love on you… His love for you is what drove Him to die on the cross. His love for you is why he became a man, like a man becoming a worm, and come to earth - just for you! He wants to lavish His love out on you, but will you open your heart to Him? Many times it is the not knowing whether or not we are forgiven that contributes to our sin… Don’t you see, it’s one big vicious cycle! Satan doesn't have to put condemnation on you and I, we do enough of that ourselves!

Please, right now, ask God to go deep down into your “psyche” your soul, and take away all the guilt, everything you’re still holding onto from yesterday, all the shame, the bitterness, the anger, the regret… I don’t care if you’ve murdered somebody - if you’ve accepted Christ, it’s forgiven, and it’s covered. You don’t have to be bound by it anymore; you can be free at last. All the heart aches, the misery we store deep down in our soul, that time you slapped your child that to this day haunts you. The times in your life that you wish you could have said something else, but someone would have laughed at you… The times when your father beat you, or walked out… It can all fade, and all disappear, and all that will be left is a rest, peace, joy, hope, and love. Do you want that? I’m not just talking about being saved, I’m talking about be set free. For some it’s a process that God leads them through, for others it’s all at once. Some cry, some laugh, but no matter what, you can be free! Just say out loud...

“Father, these things that I so regret, the things I’ve done that come back and I’ve never forgiven myself for, the hurt that others inflicted on me, you want to heal it all, you love me!!! Right now Lord Jesus, set me free. Begin a great wondrous lifestyle change in me, go deep into my mind and totally set me free… Thank you Lord, in Jesus’ name I am free, Amen!” You can be free!

I hope you and your's a Happy New Year! 2008 went by quickly, let's remember to make 2009 as great as we can, and live life without regret. Let's live abundantly in 2009!
